EliteDesk 800 G1

Hi.

I have a HP Elite Desk 800 G1 SFF Desktop Computer, and I've noticed that its Intel 4790 4th Generation CPU is quite slow for what I need it for. I can't seem to get a straight answer from any other websites I can find, so I just need to know what the ABSOLUTE BEST CPU I can get for this computer. I don't care about the price, I just need some info.

Thanks

@Kelly170,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

The absolute very best processor that is compatible with your HP EliteDesk 800 G1 SFF is the i7-4790K (TDP = 88 watt).

Take a look at the best HP EliteDesk G1 SFF User performance scores here: UserBenchmark: HP EliteDesk 800 G1 SFF Compatible Components.

Make sure your RAM (up to 4 x 8GB) is DDR3 PC3-12800 capable to run at 1600 MHz

In that case, what is the best possible motherboard for this chassis.

@Kelly170,

Unfortunately, an HP Elite Desk 800 G1 SFF does not lend itself for any upgrade: the (left) back-panel layout is different between the G1 and G2 motherboards -in other words, you cannot make the G2 fit in a G1 desktop case:

And whereas the HP EliteDesk 800 G1 SFF is based on the 4th gen Intel LGA1150 socket-based processors, the HP EliteDesk 800 G2 SFF is fitted with 6th gen Intel LGA1151 socket-based processors.  This is too bad, because, for example, the HP EliteDesk 800 G3 SFF motherboard can be upgraded with the G4 and even the G5 SFF motherboards, because they are dimensionally the same -successive gen Intel processors of course: all of them are  LGA1151 socket-based 7th, to 8th, to 9th gen processors.

Kind Regards,
