Compaq 8000 Elite SFF
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have a brand newHP Compaq 8000 Elite Small Form Factor, Intel Core 2 DUO 3 GHz, Windows7 OS with 1x2 GB sticks of ram. I just tried installing 2x4GB DDR3 1066MHz PC3-8500 DESKTOP Memory Non ECC Low Density RAM. They were properly seated and locked in place but when I started the machine all I got were 5 beeps then 5 more, then the fan started going real fast but the machine never booted up. I then reinstalled my original 2x1gb ram and it booted up fine. What is my problem?

Hi:

Your PC doesn't like the memory.

It is very hard to find the right memory to work in the 8000 and 8100 Elite PC's.

I used this memory in my 8000 Elite CMT, and it worked just fine.

I had an idea while waiting for your response.  BTW, thanks.

I have an HP 8000 Elite Convertable Minitower with 16gb (4x4) and it works just fine.  I'm going to take 2x4gb out of that machine and see if they work in my 8000 Elite SFF and if they do, I'll then try the 2x4gb I bought which didn't work in the 8000 Elite SFF in my Minitower.  If they do then the problem is solved.  If they don't, I'll return them and purchase the ones you recommended.  I've already got them in my Newegg shopping cart.  I'll let you know what happens.  Thanks again.

You're very welcome.

I would be very surprised if they work in the CMT when they didn't work in the SFF, but you have nothing to lose by trying it.

I had a similar situation where a 2 GB 1333 MHz memory chip worked just fine in my HP 6200 Pro, but it would not work in my 8000 Elite CMT.

It was low density, met all of the specs...just wouldn't work.

I'll let you know what happens.  I won't be able to do it till this weekend.

What do you think about these?  Would they work?  The URL here is from the Patriot Memory site.

That is the same part number as the one I posted...PSD34G13332, so yes, that will work.

I found 16 gigs of Patriot ram with the right specs for under $50, puchased them, installed them, booted up and they worked smooth as silk.  Thanks much for your help.
