I have an Elitedesk 800 G3 DM. and I removed the 2.5" drive and cage and installed a Samsung 980 1 TB M.2 NVMe SSD in the available M.2 slot.
No hold down screw came for the standoff, so I used one of the two screws that held the drive cage in, and it worked perfectly.
I did not buy a drive with a heat sink though, however there is plenty of clearance available with or without a SSD heatsink--even with the drive cage in place.
I took out the drive cage to presumably provide more airflow in the case.
The drive has never exceeded 56 - 58 C in temperature.
Now of course if you don't have an 800 G3 DM. your PC may have different insides.
I believe the G3, G4 and G5 have pretty much the same design.
