HP Pavillion Desktop 570-p017c
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Bought a new 2TB Western Digital SATA hard drive. I have the manual for this PC and don't foresee having any trouble with the physical installation but need a basic set of instruction on how to format and install the Window 10 OS

I have  created a USB thumb drive, using the Microsoft Media Creation Tool I have created the Windows ISO to a flash drive.

This computer had Windows 10 on it before the hard drive failed, so when I install the the hard drive it should be able to see that I had a previous Windows 10 version and will not have to re-register it. Paul from this forum had send me a nice set of instructions for this at one time a while back, but I can't find the print out any longer. Would like to do this ASAP as this is my wife's PC and you know how that goes hehe 😍

Hi:

You have a couple of options with that model.

1. Use the HP cloud recovery tool to make a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with the PC.

Here is an info link for how to use that utility...

HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool (Windows 10, 7) | HP® Customer Support

2. Make a bootable W10 installation flash drive using the media creation tool from the link below.

Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)

After W10 has completed installing you can install the drivers and available software from the PC's support page.

HP Pavilion Desktop - 570-p017c Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Customer Support

When you boot from the media, see if you can install W10 in EFI mode by booting from the EFI USB boot source.

Hi Paul - good to hear from you again!

I just installed this new hard drive - When I go into the BIOS  it shows up there. There is absolutely nothing on this hard drive.

So there is not Internet access because Window is not on the hard drive - So maybe this wouldn't work because one of the steps requires internet access. Again there is nothing on the hard drive, I'm just trying to get it to install windows 10 on it using the Media Creation tool.  It loads all the files from the USB recovery drive onto the new hard drive, all the way up to the Windows Welcome screen  an says "Installation incomplete."  I have tried 3 different Media creation tool USB recovery tools but none of them make. I shows the new hard drive being formatted and installing the files but doesn't fully complete.

Do you still think your solution may work?
