OMEN by HP 40L Gaming Desktop PC GT21-0000i (392G5AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi,

I am trying to install an addition 3.5" internal hard drive on an HP Omen 40L.   I see an available data cable that is going off the currently installed hard drive but I do not see a power cable.  Do I need to purchase an additional power cable?  Or should the desktop should already have one in place?

Thanks in advance.

@dxchea , welcome to the Community.

If there is a spare SATA power cable it will be attached to the power supply unit (PSU).  You may have to use a splitter to connect another hard drive if one is not available.

Thanks for the response.  I believe I made a mistake.  I do see three free connectors labeled as P5, P6, and P7.  I believe these are for power?  These are the wide connectors.  So what appears to be missing is the data cable.

You are welcome, @dxchea!

This does make more sense.  You will have to check to see if there is a SATA connector on the motherboard that can be used for the second hard drive.  If so, you can buy a standard SATA data cable from any computer store, such as, BestBuy.

Do the Omen desktops normally come with the additional SATA connector?  I am a bit new with this so I can't tell if the motherboard has a SATA connector.

Upon further inspection I do see SATA ports available on the motherboard but no additional SATA cable.  So it appears I need to purchase a cable.

Thank you for the additional information, @dxchea!

Yes, you will have to purchase an additional SATA cable.  They are available at any computer store or online.
