Will the Intel 9600k processor work in my Prodesk 600 G4 MicroTower.  The chipset is a Q370 but I do not see 9th generation processors being advertised with this PC.  Surely the Q370 chipset should support 9th series processors?  Has anyone got experience with this processor and PC?

Hi

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-prodesk-600-g4-microtower-pc/21341167/document/c06055586

max here

Intel Core i7-8700 processor
65 W
Up to 4.6 GHz maximum Turbo Frequency (3.2 GHz base frequency)
12 MB cache, 6 cores, 12 threads
Intel UHD Graphics 630
DDR4 memory up to 2666 MT/s data rate
Supports Intel vPro Technology and Intel Stable Image Platform Program (SIPP)
Intel Core i7+ 8700 processor available with Intel Optane memory (sold separately)

for example

95 W tdp

It seems that the max in tdp is 65 w of the processors supported, so not possible

Thanks for your reply.  I have been using an Intel 8600k processor in the same pc with no problems and this has the same heat output 95w as the 9600k processor.  The Prodesk 600 G5 MT is sold with 9th generation processors and has the same chipset Q370.  So is there a block in the Bios that stops the 9th generation Intel processors from being used in the Prodesk 600 G4 MicroTower PC?

Sorry, so it's either going or not.
A bios update might be needed, but nothing certain, and probably not available for that!
I can't advise you to test, it's up to you, but with luck
Nothing to see, but for the example:

when I install an Intel 9600k into my Prodesk 600 G4 MT PC, I get three long beeps and 5 short beeps.  So this seems to indicate that the processor is not recognized or perhaps it is faulty.  So back to my original question, are 9th generation processors recognized in the Prodesk 600 G4 MT with Q370 chipset or are they blocked?

HP Recommended

I wouldn't say that's it, but it comes to the same thing.
You have an HP motherboard, not a motherboard like you might get directly from a motherboard vendor
The processor you want to try was made long after your hp motherboard was released, right?
If it was a manufacturer motherboard, if it is in theory compatible, a bios update, could be developed
But at HP, it's different, rarer!
I can not certify, that the motherboard is simply blocked or not, obviously, if it does not work, it is incompatible, and nothing to do
I haven't checked, the error code, so it could be a problem with the processor, I doubt it, but I can't be sure of anything here
Tried a non K processor, maybe it would work
But all I can advise you is not to insist.
or find someone on the net, who has already tried

I did do a bios update today, (v.02.18.0 - 27/12/2021), but I still get the same beep codes 3,5.  So it’s either the processor that is defective or this chipset Q370 will not accept 9th generation processors.  Perhaps the “k” processor is the issue but I am already using a 8600k with no problems.

sorry, I can't add anything more, you gave me the information too late
you have the answer to the question obviously, in the doc it is mentioned

Hardware 3.5 The processor is not detected.*

Indicates hardware triggered event; all other events are controlled by the BIOS.

I think we now need input from HP as to whether the Prodesk 600 G4 MT will accept 9th generation Intel processors or whether there is a lock on the hardware.  I am not a Gamer so heat is not so much an issue although I will ensure that my cooler can cope with 95W.  These are great PCs with small size and with a PCIe x4 slot that will take an NVMe card  via an upriser board and therefore yield an totally SSD enabled set up.

Well without thinking this morning I put an i5-9500 in to check it was working ok (thought it was a G5 not a G4 SFF) and it fired up fine so not blocking 9th Gen CPU's. I have a couple of i9-9900K and also an i9-9900 which I'll try later
