OMEN by HP 25L Gaming Desktop PC GT15-0000i RCTO Base Models (LaprasI)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi HP,

I have an Omen 25L that originally came with a Intel 12700 CPU.  I have since then changed to a larger chassis to accommodate the size and cooling requirement of the 4080 Super GPU.  To pair with the GPU, I have purchased the 14900KF CPU for installation.

With the recent release of Intel's microcode of 0X12B to address the overvoltage on Raptor Lake CPUs, when can we expect a BIOS release from HP for this patch?  I have found that other M/B vendor has released the new BIOS with 0X12B microcode at the end of September.

Other info:  M/B Model 894A with H670 chipset

BIOS installed:  version F.43 (Released in 9/9/2024)

HP firmware update 15.43.0.0

For both BIOS and FW update, I can not find any supporting document/notes that either of them even the 0x129 microcode for the Intel CPUs.

Thank you for your support.

Greetings @ok170

Welcome back to the Forum.

I don't believe anyone in this Forum can predict when, or if, HP will release a BIOS update having this Intel microcode patch.

The Intel H670 MB (chipset) does not support CPU overclocking. And HP is very conservative with CPU socket power delivery. Many folks in this Forum, wanting the most CPU performance possible, complain about CPU power throttling on some HP MBs.

So, I would guess your 14900KF should be fine unless you are now experiencing common symptoms associated with Intel processor degradation.

Download: HWiNFO  portable and Cinebench.

Fire up both programs. Check: temps, watts, voltages, and stability using HWiNFO while Cinebench is stressing the CPU.

Thanks for the response Bill.

My motherboard does not support CPU voltage or frequency multiplier modification in Bios or the Omen software.  There is only the ability to overclock the memory... I'm thinking HP disabled the option in their BIOS with the 25L chassis to prevent overheating.

I understand that HP OEM M/B is usually conservative in nature in terms of pushing components to the limit.  My concern is that Intel's overvoltage issue is not limited to overclocking, but happens even at idle with normal usage.  My intent is not to  have my CPU degrade prematurely.  I searched for the forums and bios released notes, and I cannot find any information whether 1.  HP's M/B has voltage limiting values written in their original bios that will ensure no overvoltage comes to the Gen 13/14 Intel CPU or 2.  If they plan to release BIOS with Microcode 0x12B at all.

I'm just wondering if it's going to be a long wait for something that may never happen.  If that's the case, I'll just return the CPU or wait 1-2 months and hope for the best.

Thanks.

You would have to contact HP Support for a definitive answer to the BIOS patch update release schedule for your MB.

The 14900 would be warrantied by Intel if you bought a retail SKU.

Thank you Bill.  Since my computer is out of warranty, I assume I’ll need to pay to get an answer from HP directly which they may say no ETA. 🤣

My pleasure.

I agree.

You do have the Intel warranty if the CPU was purchased at retail.

Someone responded to me via another thread with the information I was looking for.  Thought of sharing it with the rest of

the community as this information is not easy to find:

Thanks for your help Bill_To and Sanchertx2.

HP has released an advisory on this - the 1st Microcode has already been released for some weeks now and the 2nd one is coming later this month

Net- if you have the latest BIOS for one of the affected products you will have the updated microcode.

For many of the products it is not listed in the release notes
