For the past two days my desktop, at various times (day or night) will begin squalling for about a minute or so and just quit. There aren't any error messages, no loss of computer time, etc. The computer, with the exception of the noise, is otherwise perfect, considering it's over eight years old. I looked inside the box and there is nothing obvious...the fans seem to be turning normally and nothing feels overly hot to the touch. I also ran diagnostics on the HDD and everything tested Okay.
Any ideas to get to the bottom of this is appreciated.
Thanks,
BaxTax

@BaxTax , welcome to the forum.
The next time the squalling begins, open the case to see if you can hear where the sound is originating. I believe it could be a fan with a failing bearing. Also, check the capacitors on the motherboard to see if any of them are beginning to bulge. I have heard that they can make strange noises when failing.

Thank you sir...I'll be sure to check and get back to you with my observations.
It looks a little crowded inside the box and I did my best to check the capacitors, but I didn't notice anything usual with them.
Fans I can deal with...capacitors are another story.
Thank you.
