Where could I source an internal CD/DVD player/writer for this model please?

Since it is an "All-In-One", it's not as easy as it would be with a true "desktop" computer, to swap-out the failed device.

Start at: HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads

Enter your model-number and do a search.

Select the page that has the "downloads" for your model.

Click on the link to "manuals".

Click on the "Service Manual".

Skim through the manual to find the HP Part-Number for the device.

Access:  http://PartSurfer.HP.com  & enter the part-number & do a search, to see if HP has inventory & pricing info.

Or, with the part-number, do a search on eBay.

There are many models/products of HP TouchSmart 300 . The following models/products has internal Optical Disc rive (ODD aka CD/DVD drive)

From there, I believe you may be able to add an ODD to your machine and you can find part number on the following link
