I recently wanted to upgrade my internal SSD firmware which is WD PC SN740 SDDPNQD-512G-1006 and the firmware version is HPS3. In Hp support page, I saw two firmware software for my western digital SSD:

  • Western Digital SN740/SN560 SSD Firmware Update

  • HPS4/HPS4T/HPS2 Rev.A
  • 8.8 MB
  • Jan 8, 2024

another one:

  • Western Digital SSD Firmware Update

  • HPS3/HPS3T Rev.A
  • 6.6 MB
  • Sep 15, 2023

Although the first one says the exact model number for my SSD, I'm not sure which one should I upgrade to because when I checked the version in western digital dashboard, it says that my SSD is up to date (HPS3), I am also not sure if this HP support page has the right firmware for my SSD, kindly assist me which firmware should I upgrade to or do I  need to upgrade or not.

Welcome to the HP Forum.

I would do nothing if the Western Digital Dashboard says the drive is using the latest firmware.

If your WD PC SN740 SSD is already on firmware HPS3 and the Western Digital Dashboard indicates it’s up to date, upgrading may not be necessary. However, if you want to update, choose the HPS4/HPS4T firmware since it mentions your model. Ensure compatibility by checking with Western Digital support or HP support before proceeding.
