Z1 Entry Tower G5 base model
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi!

I'm considering adding an RTX 3090 to Z1 Entry Tower G5. I'm wondering which type of PCI slots the motherboard has. Also does the graphic card physically fit in the case in terms of length and height? Shall we change the power supply as well?

Thanks a lot!

a system with a default 250 watt power supply powering a 350 watt video card..............not going to happen in this universe

nvidia recommends a 750 watt QUALITY supply for the 3090

HP specs a RTX 2080 (non TI)  IF YOU ORDER THE Z1 G5 SYSTEM WITH THE 500 WATT PWR SUPPLY because the OEM HP 2080 only draws 215 watts  (non TI) the "TI" 2080 will draw 250 watts or greater depending on the card maker

and nvidia recommends a 650 watt supply or better for the retail 2080 models

Thanks a lot! Yes I completely agree with you. The power supply should be changed anyway. But I'm still wondering if the card can physically fit in the computer case or not. Maybe there isn't enough room...

@harning,

Solution: park your RTX 3090 outside (if necessary) your desktop, power it with a synced external ATX power supply, and keep the original power supply.  This is how I upgraded an HP EliteDesk 800 G3 SFF to an 800 G4 SFF and finally to an 800 G5 SFF: Solved: Re: Upgrading HP EliteDesk 800 G5 SFF - HP Support Community - 8545942.

When you approach your HP Z1 Entry Tower G5 upgrade in this manner, like I did with my HP EliteDesk 800 G5 SFF: HP EliteDesk 800 G5 SFF Performance Results - UserBenchmark, you will smoke the HP Z1 Entry Tower G5 competition.

Kind Regards,

the HP Z1 G5 does not use a standard ATX compatible power supply it uses a HP specific power supply

here's a ebay link to a 500 watt unit that clearly shows the connectors

you may be able to use a power adapter, like this one contact Comeap to see if it works
