Current motherboard is HP name: Reno
SSID: 89B5, rtx3060, 16gb in use. I thought it was 9060xt 16bg because pcie was 3.0 so I didn't consider 8GB of graphics memory but I saw a post saying it wasn't recognized. Please reply

@hello123123123,

Well, yes, there is this one guy who claims, and I quote: "and got a 5060ti 16gb [asus dual] for a few bucks more instead and everything works perfectly." OK, but another guy says, quote: "I also installed the RTX 5060 Ti on the Victus 15L, and it works fine. However, when I restart, it stays on a black screen. I have to turn it off using the power button. It then starts up normally, but every time I restart, it stays on a black screen. Is the same thing happening to you or do you know how to fix it?"

The point is this: sounds like the first guy got lucky and picked the right RTX 5060 Ti 16GB graphics card which actually works as intended, but like I mentioned in my previous post, none of the almost 3K TG02-0xxx users show up with an RTX 50xx card, which should tell you something.

Look, I don't want to argue about this, and maybe you should try an Asus DUAL RTX 5060 Ti OC Edition 16 GB, and report back!

Kind Regards,

@hello123123123,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

Your Victus by HP 15L Gaming Desktop TG02-0020 is fitted with the Reno motherboard (SSID: 89B5) and powered by a 500-watt power supply. A 500-watt power supply should be sufficient to power an AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT 16 GB card.

However -unfortunately, it appears that the latest AMD RX 90xx series graphics cards are not (yet?) compatible with your PC -same story, incidentally, with Nvidia latest RTX 50xx series graphics cards.

This has to do with HP's BIOS/micro coding, which hasn't yet caught up.  For example, I tried to make an RTX 5070 work in my HP Pavilion TP01-3003w, which also didn't work.

Kind Regards,

Thank you for your reply.

I see, but if you look at the other post here, I see a case that 5060ti was successful. 5060 and 5070 seem to be different even though they are from the same generation?

1.

In the BIOS, try disabling Secure Boot and enabling CSM (Compatibility Support Module) if those options are available. Some OEM systems can have issues with graphics cards that are UEFI-only.

2.

Delete existing security keys: In the BIOS Security or Boot menu, find the Secure Boot–related options. There, choose an option such as “Clear Secure Boot Keys” or “Delete All Security Keys” to remove all preinstalled keys from HP.
Create/install new security keys: After deleting the keys, in the same menu select an option such as “Install Default Secure Boot Keys,” “Create Security Keys,” or “Restore Factory Keys.” This process makes the BIOS generate and install a new set of security keys based on the current hardware configuration, including the newly installed graphics card.
Enable Secure Boot: Once the new keys have been created, change the “Secure Boot” option to “Enabled” and save the settings, then reboot.

Have you tried the steps above?

@hello123123123,

What "other post"? Please provide a link.  I see exactly zero RTX 50xx cards installed amongst almost 3,000 Victus by HP 15L Gaming Desktop TG02-0xxx benchmarks here: UserBenchmark: HP Victus by HP 15L Gaming Desktop TG02-0xxx Compatible Components.

In the comments, there are 2 people who said 9060xt failed, 5060ti successful

Yes, you can upgrade the GPU in the HP Victus TG02-0020, but there are a few things to check first.

The Reno motherboard uses a standard PCIe 3.0 x16 slot, so technically most modern GPUs (like RTX 4070, RX 7800 XT, etc.) will fit. However, you need to make sure of three things:

  1. Power supply (PSU): The stock PSU is usually 500–600 W. If you install a more powerful GPU, you may need to upgrade it (especially for RTX 4070 Ti or higher).

  2. Case space: The TG02 case is compact — double-check the GPU length and thickness before buying.

  3. Cooling and airflow: High-end GPUs generate more heat; make sure there’s enough ventilation.

The RTX 3060 (8 GB or 12 GB) that comes with it is decent, but if your system only detects 8 GB, it’s likely the 8 GB version — not the RTX 3060 Ti 12 GB or a 9060XT (which doesn’t exist).

Yeah, you can upgrade the GPU in your HP Victus TG02-0020, but there are a few things to watch out for. The PCIe slot supports new cards, so most GPUs will fit fine, but HP systems can be picky with really new models. A few people said newer cards like the RTX 50 series or RX 9000 sometimes don’t get detected because of BIOS limits.

If you’re moving from the RTX 3060 to something like a 3070 or 4070, it should work as long as your power supply can handle it and the card fits in the case. Just make sure to update the BIOS first and double-check your PSU connectors. If the system doesn’t recognize the new GPU or only shows part of its memory, that’s likely a compatibility thing.

So yeah, it’s possible, but stay one or two generations ahead for the best chance it’ll work smoothly.
