The service guide for this model (G5 Elitebook 800 Mini) indicates each RAM module can be up to 16GB for the dual ram slots (total 32GB). https://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06439994.pdf
Another HP link explicitly states 64GB maximum (32GB x 2) https://support.hp.com/ie-en/document/c06403210

Crucial recommends a 64GB chip set as the max, so I think that is a good indication, as they will guarantee there recommendations.
However, it is rare that an average user will have a need to use that much RAM. 32GB is probably more than most need. What are you doing that might need that much RAM on a Mini?

The best support that HP could provide is to update any inaccurate documents. I'm out of warranty so contacting support is not an option. BIOS is always up to date.
Considering that reputable businesses are selling up to 64GB system RAM (2x32GB) as an upgrade solution for this machine, I feel confident that buying a single 32GB RAM chip is not a mistake.

Do others agree? I actually put this post up seeing confirmation that others have successfully installed 64GB RAM on these machines.

Using it for business computing with heavy excel analysis, Microsoft Suite and browsing. I was initially looking at buying ram for maximum expandability as it shipped with 8GB and that's sometimes not enough. Decided that as you suggest 64GB is overkill and this is just a cheap machine.
Could have gone with 1x32GB but instead purchased 2x16GB 3200 MHz modules, hoping for better performance. I hope that they will run at 2666 MHz (like the existing RAM), having noted that xmp enable is not available in BIOS settings.
