I replaced my old HP desktop because it was not "Windows 11 Ready". I bought a HP Envy that had Windows 11 pre-installed, upgraded the 12 gigs of RAM to 32 and moved my almost new SATA SSD and Nvidia 1050Ti GPU to the new machine.
My Technician advised replacing the i510400 as a next step along my upgrade path. That was in October, 2021.
I'm now told by two different techs, that the CPU of my Envy cannot be removed & replaced. The CPU is soldered to the MoBo. So...,
1) Does HP solder the Intel Core i5 10400 CPU to the Baker Motherboard?
2) Can the Motherboard be Replaced with a MoBo having an Open L socket?
3) Does HP Offer a Replacement Motherboard?

NO

It can be very difficult or even impossible.
3) Does HP Offer a Replacement Motherboard?
No

@Guzzy1 -- I doubt that spending your money to try to "upgrade" is cost-effective.
Current:
Intel Core i5-10400F (Comet Lake-S) 2.9 GHz base frequency, up to 4.3 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost Technology, 12 MB L3 cache, 6 cores
Possible upgrades:
Intel Core i7-10700 (Comet Lake-S) 2.9 GHz base frequency, up to 4.8 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost Technology, 16 MB L3 cache, 8 cores
Intel Core i7-10700F (Comet Lake-S) 2.9 GHz base frequency, up to 4.8 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost Technology, 16 MB L3 cache, 8 cores
So, no increase in the "base" speed of each core, and only a 11% maximum increase when using Turbo Boost mode, and adding 33% more cores.
What apps do you run that would ever use those 2 "extra" cores? Probably, "none".
Save your money for purchasing something else, or taking your Significant Other out for a nice dinner, or buy a Gift Certificate for a "spa-day" as a birthday present.
