HP Pavilion HPE h8-1100 Desktop PC series
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

This year I received a Gigabyte Geforce GTX 1050 as a gift,  but when I installed it, it did not function correctly. I tried the grahics card on another computer and it worked without issue, so I believe it is my computer.

Error description: When I boot the computer with the new card in, the monitor displays a blue splash screen then freezes, keyboard input is frozen, there is a beep, and the graphics card's fan turns on but then quickly turns off.

I have already upgraded my PSU to 600W, and I have been running a Radeon 6670 in this desktop without issue for a few years now.

What can I do to make this new graphics card work? Thanks.

Hi

You are welcome.

Thanks for the specific product number.

I am sorry but you cannot update the BIOS to UEFI.

The 1050 is not compatible with your PC.

Your PC can run Nvidia 600 series graphics cards. Nvidia 700, 900, and 1000 series cards require UEFI BIOS.

Hi

There are many h8-1100 desktops made by HP.

The 1100 series seems to have been manufactured in 2011.

The 1050 requires a UEFI BIOS. HP did not include a UEFI BIOS in PC's made in 2011.

Thanks for the reply.

My specific model is H8-1120. Is there more information I need to provide beyond that model #?

Can I update my BIOS to bring it into UEFI compatibility?

Hi there.  I am running a GTX 650Ti with no problems in the h8-1120.  I did have to update my PSU to handle the card but otherwise works fine.

In terms of Bios updates, there is one for Windows 7 that is dated Feb 6, 2012 (7.16 Rev.A).  Not sute if this addresses the EUFI compatibility issue or not.  see: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-hpe-h8-1100-desktop-pc-series/5146418/m...

Does anyone know?

Hi,

HP never posted a version 8 BIOS for the Carmel2 motherboard.  While there have been claims to get full UEFI enable graphics cards working with an older HP BIOS but the normal boot up and secure boot process is compromised.

The last modern style graphics card that worked with the Carmel2 motherboard in posted in this thread.

BTW---IF you find a HP version 8 BIOS for the Carmel2 motherboard, then post the link to this thread.
