I would like to know if my computer is compatible with the Nvidia Geoforce GTX 1060?  Does it provide enough power or is there even a cable available inside to connect to the card?

Hi @Inquirer64,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To determine if your HP Pavilion TP01-2 Desktop computer is compatible with the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card, you need to consider several factors: the physical space inside the case, the power supply capacity, and the available connectors. Here’s a detailed guide to help you check compatibility:

Physical Space (Form Factor):

  • Open your HP Pavilion TP01-2 case and measure the space available for the graphics card. The GTX 1060 typically requires a dual-slot space and is about 9.8 inches (25 cm) long.
  • Ensure there are no obstructions that would prevent the card from fitting into the PCIe slot.

Power Supply Unit (PSU):

  • The GTX 1060 typically requires a 6-pin PCIe power connector and a power supply of at least 400W. Check your computer’s power supply wattage by looking at the label on the PSU inside your case.
  • Confirm if your PSU has a 6-pin PCIe power connector available. If your power supply does not have this connector, you might need an adapter, or you may need to upgrade the PSU.

Available Connectors and Expansion Slots:

  • Ensure your motherboard has an available PCIe x16 slot, which is required for the GTX 1060.
  • Check if there are enough expansion slots at the back of your case to accommodate a dual-slot graphics card.

BIOS Compatibility:

  • Some pre-built systems may have BIOS compatibility issues with newer graphics cards. Ensure your BIOS is up to date. You can check for BIOS updates on the HP support website for your specific model.

Driver Support:

  • Download and install the latest Nvidia drivers for the GTX 1060 from the Nvidia website to ensure compatibility and optimal performance.

Steps to Check Compatibility:

Open the Case:

  • Power off your computer and disconnect all cables.
  • Open the case by removing the screws on the side panel. Refer to the HP Pavilion TP01-2 manual if needed.

Inspect the Power Supply:

  • Look at the label on the PSU to check the wattage. Ensure it’s at least 400W.
  • Check for the availability of a 6-pin PCIe power connector.

Measure the Space:

  • Measure the length and height of the space where the GPU will be installed.
  • Ensure there are no cables or components that will obstruct the installation.

Check the Expansion Slot:

  • Locate the PCIe x16 slot on your motherboard and make sure there’s no card installed there or other components obstructing the area.

Update BIOS:

  • Visit the HP support website, enter your model number, and download the latest BIOS update if available.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
