I have a HP Pavilion 690-0020 (https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05970262) and it has a Ryzen 2400G. I don't have the money for an entirely new computer so i was thinking of just upgrading some parts on this one instead. On the support page it says it supports up to a 65w CPU but only has CPUs listed up to the Ryzen 2000 series when this PC came out so i don't know if they just stopped updating the page or if it doesn't support later AM4 CPUs. Does anyone know if a Ryzen 5600 or 5600x could work because they are both 65w or does it need a BIOS update and HP hasn't updated it? This seems to be the latest BIOS available. @John_Do1 , welcome to the Community.
The CPU's listed in the "Processor upgrade information" section have all been tested to assure they are compatible with the motherboard. If a CPU is not on the list it will most likely not work and especially, the newer models like the 5600 and 5600x. This would not change with a BIOS update. HP's BIOS updates don't normally allow for upgrades to more powerful components.
