HP 500B Microtower
Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

I have a HP 500B Microtower: https://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/c02711762

I currently have 2GB Ram and want to upgrade to 4GB

Is this likely to be compatible: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kingston-KVR1333D3S8N9H-2G-2GB-1333MHz-PC3-10600-CL9-DDR3-RAM-Memory/2644...

I have checked and it's DDR3 10600 (1333 MHz) non-ECC like specified on the HP product page

@RAMGuyQuery , welcome to the forum.

The first thing that you should do is use CPU-Z to check the brand and timings of the existing memory.  You will find this information in the tab titled "SPD".  This information is important because different brands of memory don't always work well together.  Once you have this information, I suggest that you contact Kingston's Tech Support for help with determining if their memory is compatible with the existing memory.  This will save you a lot of money, time and frustration.

Hi,

I found the compatible RAM from Kingston and bought it off eBay. However, I have a problem.

Even though I have 4GB RAM, it says that only 2.97 is usable?

What can I do in order to use all the 4GB?

@RAMGuyQuery,

It has shared ram with the onboard video device.

@Wb2001

How can I see how much of the RAM is shared with that?

4 - 2.97 means that 1.03GB ram is being shared with the onboard video device

But when I had only 2GB ram installed, I'm sure not that much was being shared with it (as that would of meant I had just over 1 GB ram usable)
