HP Pavilion 590-p0089

Trying to add a stick of RAM to this desktop and whenever I try and start computer it gives me the beeps for RAM issues.

There was only 1 stick in it, with another empty slot.

The RAM that was in it is not for sale anymore so I bought:

Crucial RAM 16GB Kit (2x8GB) DDR4 2400 MHz CL17 Desktop Memory CT2K8G4DFS824A

It works fine with 1 stick in, but when I put the 2nd stick in doesnt work. The 2nd stick is fine as I swapped them both into the first slot and it boots with just the 1 stick.

Updated BIOS to BIOS Version/Date AMI F.41, 2020-02-07. Still has same issue.

What else can I try?

hi

is it this one ?

HP Pavilion 590-p0089 Desktop PC Product Specifications

just to clarify, because you say

"There was only 1 stick in it, with another empty slot."

but this one

Amount: 12 GB
  • Speed: PC4-21300 MB/s
  • Type: DDR4-2666

then the original memory would seem to be DDR4 2666
but the motherboard on this side should be compatible, with what you bought!?

DR4 2400

  • Dual channel (2 DIMMs per channel) memory architecture
  • Two DDR4 UDIMM (288-pin) sockets
  • Supports PC4-19200 (DRR4-2400)
  • Supports 4 GB and 8 GB DDR4 UDIMMs
  • Supports up to 4 GB on 32-bit systems
    note:
32-bit systems cannot address a full 4.0 GB of memory.
  • Supports up to 32 GB (unbuffered) on 64-bit computers

if I followed correctly, both modules will work, one or the other in a slot?
but have you tried both slots with each module (check if the second slot has no problem)
also your original module (what size? 4 or 8 GB) will it work in both slots, or not

No RAM sticks, new or old will work in the second slot, with our without a stick in the first slot.

It had a Samsung 8 gig stick in it, not sure if the person here had modified the RAM before.

Ok

sorry, but I'm afraid this computer was sold (give ) to you without the second module, because the slot may have been damaged..
Not easy, but tried to see if the slot connectors are not damaged, maybe!
at this stage, I cannot certify anything
Either it's just the slot or a problem that I can't identify I think here
Can be done with a professional, if repairable, not too expensive otherwise, try a single 16 gb module

sorry, I don't see too many solutions here
