OMEN 30L Desktop PC GT13-1000a (207P7AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I bought 64 Gig of ram that the Microsoft AI and the company Patriotmemory.com assured me would work in this computer. When I pull the original 16 Gig and insert the Viper memory nothing happens if I just insert one stick. If I insert both 32 Gig sticks it will make 1 beep. Thats all. My monitor comes on in the beginning but after a second it goes off and stays off. I assume you put the 32 Gig sticks in Slot 1 & 3. Since my last bios update I don't have a setting to turn on (or off) XMP profile as was suggested by the MS AI. It is no longer in my BIOS settings. I use nearly 10 of my 16 Gig when my computer is just idling. I keep getting pop-ups that tell me I need to get more memory.

So, can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? Is it TRULY compatible or was that incorrect? Hope someone has a clue to what the issue is.

Hi @cM0ss,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

It sounds like you're encountering compatibility issues with the new RAM in your OMEN 30L Desktop PC GT13-1000a. Here’s how you can troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

1. Check RAM Compatibility:

  • Verify Specifications: Double-check the specifications of the new RAM (Patriot Viper) to ensure it matches the requirements of your motherboard (speed, voltage, and timing). Use tools like CPU-Z to get detailed specs of your original RAM and compare.
  • Check Manufacturer's Recommendations: Go to HP’s official support page for your OMEN 30L model and review their list of compatible memory modules.

2. Ensure Proper Seating of RAM:

  • Install in Correct Slots: For dual-channel memory, you should typically install RAM in slots 1 & 3 or 2 & 4, but double-check the motherboard manual for specific slot recommendations.
  • Reseat RAM: Remove the new RAM sticks, and carefully reseat them, ensuring they are fully and firmly inserted into the slots.

3. Try Booting with Original RAM:

  • Reinsert Original RAM: If your system boots with the original 16GB, it indicates that the new RAM might not be compatible or there's an issue with the RAM sticks themselves.

4. Test One Stick at a Time:

  • Single Stick Test: Test each 32GB stick individually in different slots to see if one might be faulty.
  • Clear CMOS: After each test, you may want to clear the CMOS by removing the battery for a few minutes or using the clear CMOS jumper on the motherboard.

Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @cM0ss,

Please find the next steps below.

5. BIOS Update and Settings:

  • Update BIOS: Ensure you have the latest BIOS update installed. This can sometimes resolve memory compatibility issues.
  • XMP Profile: If XMP is missing, it's possible the latest BIOS removed it or it may only appear with specific compatible RAM. You can try reverting to a previous BIOS version if the option was available earlier and is crucial for your memory's operation.

6. Check for Beep Codes:

  • One Beep: One beep generally indicates a DRAM refresh failure, suggesting a memory issue.
  • Refer to Motherboard Manual: Check the manual or HP's support page to interpret beep codes specific to your motherboard.

7. Try a Different Memory Brand:

  • If the Patriot Viper RAM isn't working, consider trying a different brand that is known to be compatible with HP OMEN desktops, such as Crucial or Kingston, which are often recommended for HP systems.

8. Revert to Original Configuration:

  • If you can't get the new RAM to work, revert to your original 16GB configuration to keep the system operational while troubleshooting further or seeking assistance.

Tips:

  • Avoid Mixing RAM: Ensure you are not mixing the new RAM with the old one; use only one set at a time.
  • Static Precautions: When handling RAM, always take precautions to avoid static discharge, which can damage the components.

If after trying these steps the new RAM still doesn't work, it's likely a compatibility issue, and you may need to consider returning the RAM for a different model or brand that is confirmed to work with your system.

If the issue persists, reach out to HP phone support for guidance on compatible RAM options or any potential motherboard issues.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
