Hello community! I have had this HP Pro 3300 series ( the microtower version) and I have been using it as a Minecraft and file server with Linux. So recently , I decided to upgrade its cpu from the i3-2100 it has to an i5-2400 (pretty substantial upgrade ).Of course , it needed a bios update , which I did . I installed the cpu, the pc posts ( or at least almost posts) and then it tells me “ this cpu is not supported.pc will shut down in 10 seconds”.i was confused , so I switched the cpu back to the i3 and then I saw it: there was an even newer version, and apparently , as said in other forums , I needed to be on bios version 8.xx while I was still on 7.16.i go to hp’s website ,downloaded the latest update(sp70178) and ran it , only for it to fail after following all the prompts(if you need it,here is the first prompt of the update:Screenshot (2).png),opening a cmd window and saying “Mountvol z: /s”:

Screenshot (3).png

failing to do that,

then flashing for only a few frames this image:Screenshot (5).png

Every single other update that there was , i tried , but all failed. One of them said "Error 8727:Program failed to get firmware parameters"or sth like that, while all the others just said "Bios image invalid or corrupt".So , I looked for other HP desktop pcs with the exact same mobo (Foxconn 2ABF) like the HP Pro 3400 and 3500 series MT ,from which a few like the 3500,3505 etc had update files that actually updated my bios to 8.xx instead of 7.16(which the 3400 series website had). And even though I found even newer bios versions on the 3500’s website I tried them all and , surprisingly, none worked . One of them , though ,on the 3500’s website , went a bit further, telling me to save any work , and when I clicked “yes” it started , but then ,like with the first update attempt mentioned earlier , threw a cmd window teling me there was an error, which appeared so fast that I couldn’t capture it in a screenshot but you can see the “update is in progress” prompt in this picture:Screenshot (7).png ( and if you are interested you can see the first prompt it gave me with all the update's info:).

I honestly don’t know what to do , and help will be very appreciated!!
Thanks ,

Alex Kotrotsos

From what I can gather, your PC is between ten-thirteen years old.

At that point in its life cycle it is almost certain that odd things will begin to happen. The date on the BIOS was 2014. One of the other ones you showed images of was from 2011.

I highly recommend that you look around for a suitable replacement.
