I want to update my bios to 8.xx given in the software update bios of my product given by HP, the problem is that it requires a Windows 8 operating system. As far as I've researched, the bios isn't really OS dependent. So the question is, if I do update my bios using a bios update that was intended for a Windows 8 OS but with the same motherboard which is the Joshua-H61-uATX (Foxconn 2ADA) what would happen?

Hi @PaulJVC
Welcome to the HP Forums!
Thank you for posting your query in this forum, it's a great place to find answers.
I reviewed your post and I understand that you want to know whether you can update bios for a different operating system.
Don’t worry, we will work together to resolve this issue and It’s a pleasure to assist you in this regard.
As you have rightly mentioned that the bios are operating system independent. You can update the bios and I am positive that the bios update should get installed without any issues. However, HP doesn’t recommend this and you can update the bios at your own discretion.
Hope that answers your question and you have a great day!
Take care.
Cheers!

Hi @PaulJVC
HP usually tweets the bios to get the best performance out of your computer. I checked the bios update which is available on the HP website and it says that you must be on Windows 8 or 8.1 to install that update.
Please check the below link and read the installation instructions for the bios update you are referring to.
Hope that answers your question.
Good day! Take care 🙂
Cheers!
