Hi @CHEEZITO,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your laptop’s keyboard function keys are not responding, especially the sound control keys. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Check Function Lock (Fn Key)

Some HP laptops have an “Fn Lock” feature.

Try pressing Fn + Esc to toggle function key behavior.

Update Keyboard Drivers

Open Device Manager, expand “Keyboards,” and update the driver.

Restart the laptop after updating.

Test in BIOS

Restart and press F10 to enter BIOS.

Try pressing function keys (like F1 or F2) to see if they respond. If they don’t, it may be hardware-related.

Check HP Hotkey Support Software

HP laptops often require “HP Hotkey Support” or “HP Quick Launch Buttons” software.

Install or update these from HP’s support page for your model.

Windows Keyboard Settings

Go to Settings > System > Keyboard (or Ease of Access > Keyboard).

Ensure no accessibility features (like Sticky Keys) are interfering.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

Press F2 at startup and run the keyboard test.

This confirms if the keys are physically working.

External Keyboard Test

Connect a USB keyboard and check if function keys work.

If they do, the issue is with the laptop’s built-in keyboard.

I hope this helps.
