Hi, I have a BRAND NEW HP printer that is already giving me an error code after printing perfectly fine the first 5 weeks we had it. Spent an hour and 40 minutes with their Ai/Virtual Assistant/Tech Chatbox/whatever with no resolution.

The error simply says the printer is “In error state “. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Meanwhile, I would request you to please follow the steps:

Perform a Printer Power Reset

  • Turn the printer ON.
  • Disconnect the power cable from the back of the printer while it is still powered on.
  • Unplug the power cable from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cable directly into a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors).
  • Reconnect the cable to the printer.
  • Turn the printer ON and check if the error clears.

Check for Any Pending Print Jobs

Windows:

  • Press Windows + R.
  • Type:
  • Press Enter.
  • Right-click your HP printer and select See what's printing.
  • Click Printer from the top menu.
  • Select Cancel All Documents.
  • Restart the printer and try printing again.

Confirm Printer Status in Windows

  • Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Click Open print queue.
  • Ensure:
  • Pause Printing is unchecked.
  • Use Printer Offline is unchecked.

Hope this helps, Please revert if the issue persists.

Best regards,

I'm an HP Employee.
