Hi,

My All-in-one HP Pavillion 27 keyboard “s” key is not working. Can HP replace my keyboard for free?

Hi @mirellemt

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with the “S” key on your HP Pavilion 27 All-in-One—it’s a small issue, but understandably frustrating when it affects daily use.

Before considering a repair or replacement, there are several practical troubleshooting steps you can try to fix the non-working “S” key on your HP Pavilion 27 All-in-One.

These steps can help determine whether it’s a software, driver, or physical issue.

1. Restart Your Computer

Sometimes a simple reboot clears temporary glitches that affect keyboard response.

2. Test the Key in Multiple Apps

Try typing the “S” key in Notepad, a web browser, or a Word document.

If it fails everywhere, it’s likely a hardware or driver issue.

If it works in some places and not others, it may be a software-specific problem.

3. Use the On-Screen Keyboard (Temporary Workaround)

Press Win + Ctrl + O to open the On-Screen Keyboard.

Click the “S” key with your mouse. If it works, the issue is likely hardware-related.

4. Check for Dust, Debris, or Stuck Keys

If you're using an external keyboard:

Turn it over and gently shake or blow compressed air around the affected key.

Use a soft brush to clean around the key.

For built-in keyboards, avoid prying off keys, but gently tap the key to dislodge debris.

5. Update or Reinstall Keyboard Driver

Right-click the Start button and choose Device Manager.

Expand Keyboards.

Right-click your keyboard and choose Update driver > Search automatically.

If that doesn't work, right-click it again and choose Uninstall device, then restart your PC.

Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.

6. Boot into Safe Mode

To rule out third-party software:

Press Win + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.

Go to the Boot tab and check Safe boot, then restart.

Test the “S” key in Safe Mode.

If it works in Safe Mode, a startup app or service might be interfering.

7. Check for Windows Updates

Go to Settings > Windows Update and check for any pending updates.

Install all available updates and restart your system.

8. Test with an External Keyboard

Plug in a USB or Bluetooth keyboard and test the “S” key.

If it works externally, your built-in keyboard may need servicing.

If none of these steps resolve the issue and you're still under warranty, it may be time to contact HP Support for further assistance:
