I have an HP Desktop Pavilion 550-027c and would like to create 8g DVDs whereby I can etch a photo (as I undestand LightScribe software will allow) on it's face. I have mono-chrome photos. I also would like the drive to be internal.
I do not know the difference from High Density (I am assuming that means higher density than a regular 4g sided DVD and I require 8g) to multipurpose (which I assume means that I can also use the drive for regular use such as just copying DVDs, etc.).
As you can see I need advice and referral.

Hi,
Welcome to HP Support Forum. Sorry I have to say your computer only has normal ODD (Optical Disc Drive) which supports a list of CD's/DVD's on the following specs:
https://support.hp.com/rs-en/document/c04682109
It does support DL (double layer) disc's but it does NOT support LightScribe DVD's.
Note: LightScribe DVD's and normal DVD's are not the same.
Regards.

So I can't take out the drive that's in there now ( Ultra Slim Tray SuperMulti DVD Burner ) and replace the drive with a LightScribe drive? If not, then can I purchase an external drive that will do what I want?

I apologize for being unclear, must be my frustration. The DVD drive I have now is failing in my HP, so I need to purchase a new drive. I want to install an internal DVD burner that will support LightScribe software. I don't know what brand (for lack of a better word) that I is compatible with my HP 550. I need suggestions. Again, I feel foolish for not making that clear in the beginning. I assume I can take a drive out, put a LightScribe DVD burner in and install LightScribe software and all will work fine. Is it better to have an internal drive rather than an external in this instance? Should the external be the LightScribe and just put another drive similiar to what the computer came with as an internal?
Thanks for your help.

Hello again. I studied the link to the NewEgg site and decided on the Pawtec writer however, I read further and found the comment that the writer was not recognized by Windows 10. I'm running Windows 10. Any further suggestions? I agree with your comment about the heat being an issue with an internal drive. I also read that it takes about 15 min. to write a graphic to a disc. Is this about the average time? Again, any further suggestions?
