HP Desktop PC M01-F0000a (2W899AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I have an HP M01-1024 Desktop PC and am looking for information on the addition of an optical disk drive. I have seen the information in the owner's manual and specification charts indicating that it mounts behind the HDD cage and is slotted for a 9.5 mm slim drive. What I have been unable to locate is information on what drives are considered compatible. I have also seen that in the videos of disassembly that are on youtube, there is a green clip that is used to secure the drive in place. I do not see that clip on any of the ODD that are available on Amazon or other online stores.

I would like the drive to be a Blu-ray drive.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you!

I believe you are overthinking this.

With electrical specifications, a deviance of +-10% is well within specifications. That applies to any electrical/electronic device.

An optical disk that has the HP part number may or may not have the green clip. As you are  aware that your desktop PC was not delivered with an optical drive, know that the fascia that is normally attached to the front of the drive will not be present.

You will have to remove the  plastic bit that covers the place where the optical drive door will open and close.

That will leave a rather unattractive opening with the metal bits of the optical drive visible.

I suggested an external disk because locating the green clip and a fascia for the optical disk may be very difficult, but plugging in an external USB Blu-Ray drive is a simple task.

Any 9.5mm Blu-Ray writer drive will be compatible. You would likely be better off with an external version.

Hello Erico,

Thank you for your response! I do have a question regarding it.

I have noted that occasionally the optical disk drives often have the same voltage ratings such as 5v but the amperage ratings often vary such as 1.6 vs 1.8 etc. is this a critical specification to watch out for?

Additionally, is there a reason that you suggest an external drive?

Thank you.

hello, update on solution. You were correct that any 9.5mm drive will fit. I bought a new LG drive and found the green clip on eBay for dirt cheap. It all slid in perfectly and fits great. As for the bezel, I bought the HP original that matches the computer but ultimately took it back off and put the LG bezel back on. The HP bezel matches the PC but the LG fits so nice that you don't see any of the metal or inside the PC at all. Id just prefer the drives original bezel and it fits perfectly anyways.

Thank you for all the input!
