xw4600
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi

Wondering if anyone can shed any light on this for me?

I love my xw4600 and want to keep using it until it is no longer possible.

I am currently wanting to use specifically a SAMSUNG V-NAND SSD 850 EVO M.2 250GB SSD which I have not yet purchased but do not fully understand whether it is a straight fit or I would need to use some kind of adapter board?

I can see my board has the following spare connectors:-

SLOT1 PCIe x 1

SLOT3 PCIe x8(4)

SLOT4 PCIe2 x 16 75W + 75W

SLOT5 PCI

Please can someone explain in layman's terms what is needed for this to work?

@Rhothgar,

The description file states 4,8,16x slot.  Use in the 4x slot. It's self powered.

@Rhothgar,

You would need an adapter card, like this.

@provost

That's brilliant.  Many thanks for the prompt reply.

Does it matter what PCIe slot I had it to?  Would the PCIe x1 Slot throttle the bandwith speed? In which case, is it better run it in a PCIe x4 Slot and would the PCIe x8 or x16 be overkill?

I'm quite surprised that this ultra new technology is compatible with a dinosaur albeit a well-specced dinosaur which is why I love my xw4600 so much.

And do they need any kind of power to the SSD or do the pins of the PCIe provide any?
