HP Pavilion Desktop TP01-2022 Bundle PC (318G4AA)

It's a great pc all in one. I just upgraded the ram today and next is a dedicated GPU. Any thoughts? I'm pretty sure I'm going to need to upgrade the psu as well, I know there's a 400 wat option that's plug in and play. With that psu what GPU is decent for sim racing in 1080 p highest frame possible

@ESRR,

Outstanding choice/thinking -that is what I would do too!

Please be reminded that a 500-watt (p/n: L05757-800) power supply is equipped with one 8-pin and one 6-pin PCIe power cables, so whatever graphics card you install should not require more than these two PCIe power cables.

All right, here we go. By all means, please feel free to research this as well.

A smaller-sized, two-fan RTX 2070 such as this model or an HP-branded RTX 2070 model (sometimes you can get this HP (or Dell) GPU model very inexpensively).

A smaller-sized RTX 3060 such as this model.

An RTX 3060 Ti such as this model.

And the best possible graphics card option, IMO, an RTX 4070 such as this model.

Please research these GPU options (and whatever else you may come up with) carefully. Look at the dimensions (LxWxH) to make sure your card is going to be a fit in your case. Avoid a card much beyond a 200-watt TDP.

@ESRR,

Welcome to our HP community forum!

Btw, an HP Pavilion Desktop TP01-2xxx is not an AIO (All-in-One) PC, but a mini-tower desktop, and is fitted with an Erica6 motherboard (SSID: 8906) -please verify.

With this out of the way, your HP Pavilion Desktop PC TP01-2000a (2Z6C9AV) can be upgraded up to 2 x 32GB of DDR4 PC4-25600, 3200 MHz, Non-ECC, Unbuffered, DIMM (UDIMM), 288-pin RAM sticks. For almost all purposes, 2x16GB is more than adequate. Please watch what RAM you purchase.  This is what I mean.

Sounds like you got the 180-watt power supply with p/n: L81008-800 "Power Supply - 180W ENT20 Gold". You can indeed upgrade it with a 400-watt PSU (p/n: L04618-800) or a 500-watt PSU (p/n: L05757-800).

With the 400-watt power supply, for outstanding gaming performance, I would recommend an RTX 4060, such as this smaller two-fan model. A less expensive GPU option would be an RTX 3050, such as this model.

Hope this was helpful.

I'm going with the 500wt PSU. Please recommend a GPU on that wattage! Ty!!

Hey non, I'm looking at the 650w psu for the HP Z2 G4 series and wonder if it's compatible with my HP Pavilion Desktop TP01-2022 Bundle PC (318G4AA)

I'd feel a bit more comfortable running a 4070 with a 650w psu.. are they compatible? If you're sure about the 500w psu I'll buy it right now! If the 650 works please let me know!!

@ESRR,

That is a very interesting question, because the "P2" power connector color wiring (black, empty, grey, green, black, white, red/white) is the same for the HP Z2 Tower G4 Workstation's 650-watt power supply (p/n: L36049-003 / L57253-003) and the 500-watt L05757-800, but I'm not sure if the actual power connector(s) are identical or even if the wiring corresponds with each other:

Btw, it so happens that I'm very familiar with the HP Z2 Tower G4 Workstation, as it is one of my favorite upgrade projects: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Upgrading-an-HP-Z2-Tower-G4-Wor..., and the follow-up: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Upgrading-an-HP-Z2-Tower-G4-Wor...:

Anyway, I am digressing, my bad.

So, circling back, my suggestion would be this: perhaps you want to first check if the P2 connectors are identical (not just the color wiring, but the actual "P2" connector itself).  If they are identical, I personally would be inclined to try it out.  I have done that a few times during my upgrading explorations/adventures.  In my experience (your experience may vary [disclaimer]), the power supply will either work or it won't, or it will -but will annoyingly beep/display some obscure "post" message upon starting your PC which usually goes away when you hit the 'enter' key.

This made me laugh for some reason 🤣

I should be OK with the 500w setup and the 4070 correct,,,? There's no optical drive so I am saving there lol. I could ask copilot to look up blueprints of both PSUs 😆 I'm going to mod the case itself  I work in a machine shop and want to mill rectangular holes so I can mount a couple of external power supplied fans for air movement. What do you think? Thanks non... you're awesome

@ESRR,

Outstanding!  -I'm glad to hear that my contributions matter!

Look, a quality/well engineered 500-watt power supply -which the HP L05757-800 most certainly is, should be able to power a 200-watt graphics card, including, as discussed, a smaller-sized RTX 4070 powered by a single 8-pin PCIe power cable, as long as the total wattage of whatever else it is supposed to power does not exceed [EDIT:] another 225-watt MAX. If you got one of those plug-in socket wattage meters, you could ascertain how many watts your PC uses.

Hey seq here's an idea and I'd like to get your take on it.

There's a drive cage bracket and a drive cage in the TP chassis. I'm removing the drive cage bracket completely. Ill need the room. I don't use an ODD and never will. That leaves the drive cage up top. I was considering removing that as well... then... I thought..

How about mounting a fan to it for extra air flow? A side mounting fan. It would push air from front to back... good idea?

I think I'm going to mod the access panel for a fan of some sort. With the 4070 there will be heat and I want to ensure good air flow. I might mod the chassis top for an exhaust of some sort... what do you think?
