I have an HP Omen 875-0034

I believe the motherboard for this computer is a HP Edoras 84FD

I am looking to upgrade my m.2 ssd to a larger capacity drive.

My question is if anyone can tell me if this mobo supports a Gen4 M.2 SSD.

I can get a Gen3 M.2 drive for cheaper but would rather get the faster drive if it is supported.

I know the Gen4 would be backwards compatible but don't want to spend the extra money on the faster drive if I can't use it to it's potential.

@kokosnood,

I don't think so. Your Edoras MB has chipset H370, and as I understand it, this is a Gen3.  As you said, Gen4 SSDs are backwards compatible, so a Gen4 drive should work, but not at Gen4 speeds, only Gen3.

Another point is that to take advantage of a Gen4 SSD, you also need a motherboard and processor combo that supports the Gen4 interface. That would include either Intel’s 11th- or 12th-gen Core platforms or any recent AMD counterpart, such as an X570, B550, or TRX40 motherboard combined with a 3000 or 5000 series Ryzen/Threadripper CPU or later.

Hope this helps.

Kind Regards,
