Good morning,
I have a HP ProDesk 400 G6 MT 7EL75EA, with Intel i5-9500 processor.
My computer has a 256GB WD SN520 M.2 SSD but I would like to replace it with a 1TB one.
Searching on the web, I have not been able to find precise information regarding the type / model of SSD M.2 that I could use.
Please, can you help me?
Thanks.

You're very welcome.
Based on the processor and chipset your PC comes with, your PC's M.2 slot should be PCIe Gen 3 x 4, so it should run either of those drives at their maximum advertised speeds.
You can run the free utility that I zipped up and attached below, and it will tell you the specs on the NVMe slot.

Hi:
You may want to go with the WD SN550...
WD Blue SN550 1 TB SSD NVMe, Gen3 x 4 PCIe, M.2 2280, 3D NAND : Amazon.it: Informatica

I also thought I was using the WD SN550 model but wasn't sure.
I had also seen the models Crucial P2 and Kingston NV1 (I can't insert the Amazon link).
They should all have similar characteristics. Which would you choose among the 3? and why?
Is there any free software to clone the operating system and installed software from the current 256GB drive to the new 1TB drive?
Thank you so much for your invaluable help
Thanks.

You're very welcome.
Actually, if you want my input on a different SSD than the SN550, I recommend either one of these...
WD Blue SN570 1 TB M.2 NVMe SSD, con velocità di lettura fino a 3.500 MB/s : Amazon.it: Informatica
Samsung Memorie MZ-V8V1T0 980 SSD Interno da 1TB, PCIe NVMe M.2 : Amazon.it: Informatica
I make the above recommendations because the Samsung 980 is relatively new, and has much faster sequential read/write speeds than the Crucial P2 or the Kingston.
The WD Blue SN 570 is a close second, and it is less expensive than the Samsung 980.
I recommend the free Macrium reflect software to clone the SSD...it also lets you create a system image which you can store on a portable hard drive, and a bootable rescue drive that you boot from to access the system image stored on your portable hard drive. I make monthly system images with Macrium Reflect.
You want the software on the left side of the page under the Backup at Home section...

Your advice is invaluable. Thanks.
Last question, I promise you.
The motherboard (HP 8599) in my computer can take full advantage of this superfast SSD (WD SN570 or Samsung 980) or would it go "fast" as if I were using a WD SN550?
Thanks. again.

In my experience a System drive with 256 GB is usually more than enough.
Save that and if you don't have a 2nd M.2 Slot I recommend you to use a PCIe extension card with a 1 TB NVMe SSD.
I use a Samsung 970 EVO Plus on two machines. They have more than 3.400 MB/s in Read and write. The price of 110 $ is resonable.
