HP Slimline Desktop - 411-a000na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

Could someone advise me please. I've recently purchased some RAM from crucial to upgrade a HP Slimline Desktop - 411-a000na  PC, from 4GB RAM (1 x 4GB) -> 8GB RAM ( 2 x 4GB). I checked that the additional 4GB of memory is compatible but when I install it the PC powers on but I get no post or boot. I've tested the new RAM on its own and it works fine.  There are 2 slots on the board, the first slot is black and the 2nd above it is white, neither stick of RAM works in the white slot alone.

Do I need to use exactly the same matching RAM on this board and does the first black slot always need to have RAM present? Could someone advise please!

Kind regards

Trevor

@trevstonbury,

Please install the old RAM module, and re-boot.

If it did boot, then get some compressed air, and blow out the slot that was originally NOT used. I suspect dust. Then install the pair of modules. "There are 2 slots on the board, the first slot is black and the 2nd above it is white, neither stick of RAM works in the white slot alone".  Not sure what you mean.  Which color slot was the original 4GB installed?

Hi Wb2001,

Thanks for the quick reply. I haven't tried compressed air. I have tried switching everything out and in different combinations a dozen times. Both 4GB sticks of RAM work in the first slot, but neither work in the second slot which was not used before.

Hi Wb, I can't say if it's resolved yet. Apart from cleaning using compressed air, is it possible that the RAM slot is just damaged?
