Hello everyone,
I have bought a HP 880-148np OMEN, and I am waiting for delivery.
The computer comes with 12 GB but i need at least 16GB- Yes, I tried to buy the 16GB version but wasn't available. Since the RAM is dual channel (2 DIMMs per channel), I'm assuming the config is 8GB in channel A and 4GB in channel B. I could just add 8GB in channel A but I'd rather take the 4GB stick and replace it for a 16GB stick so I'll have further room for improvement in the future. So first thing I did was check the product and motherboard specs pages.. this is where I became very disapointed because:
- Supports 4 GB and 8 GB DDR4 UDIMMs
- Supports up to 32 GB (unbuffered) on 64-bit computers
However, these guys (https://www.eluktronics.com/Omen-880t/ ) offer 64gb option which prompted me to do some further digging. What I found really puzzled me..
https://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/HP-Compaq/omen-880-101np This is a similiar version of my pc, according to Crucial it can handle 64GB.
Also, HP offers 64GB option for this PC (https://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/omen-desktop-pc-880-160se-2tb61av-1), and it has the same motherboard has my PC i.e. the tampa2 (https://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/c05811928 ).
The incoherence of informations is really mindblowing.. So, the bottomline is: Does the tampa2 support only 32 or 64GB?
Thank you,
Cristiano

Your CPU i7-8700 specs say 64GB max memory is supported.
https://ark.intel.com/products/126686/Intel-Core-i7-8700-Processor-12M-Cache-up-to-4-60-GHz-
Since you have Dual-channel architecture you should work towards having matching pairs for channel A/B.
It will be expensive but that is something you will need to decide???

Welcome to the HP Support Community @Cristianoab
What is listed in HP's Manuals and Spec documents is what HP sold with that model!!!
It is NOT the limitation of the hardware.
Because of your CPU and Memory type you should be able to upgrade to 64GB.

@REO51ST Thank you very much for your fast response!
I'll take this opportunity to ask you, if you can, your opinion on the best way to upgrade my RAM considering performance and future upgrade. My idea is to replace the 4GB stick with a 16GB stick. In this way I'll have 8GB on channel A an 16GB on channel B . Can you validate this will work? I just don't want to waste 150$ on a 16GB stick and then find out it wont work...
Thanks again,
Cristiano

The problem is not that the memory is expensive, I just wanted be sure it works before spending the money!
The main cause for confusion is that in the OMEN 880-148np specs page
(https://support.hp.com/ie-en/document/c06006523) it cleary states (under Memory upgrade information😞
- Supports 4 GB and 8 GB DDR4 UDIMMs
- Supports up to 32 GB (unbuffered) on 64-bit computers
Which, according to your reply, is not correct. Still, thanks very much for your help!
Thank you

I would go with what Crucial says.
Please keep us upto date:
I'm thinking of getting an Omen 880-xxx with the i7-8700K with the Liquid Cooling System for the CPU (TDP is 95W)
Yours can be upgraded to the same???
Then you can run Intel® Extreme Tuning Utility (Intel® XTU).
