HP Envy 750-287c
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I have a an HP Envy 750-287c desktop with Odense MB, Intel Core i7-6700, 16GB , 2 TB HDD and 512GB SSD for the OS/Appliactions.  I'm quickly filling up my HDD (1.2TB) with family videos and would like to upgrade to a 6TB internal HDD drive.   Does this PC support 6TB drives?  Do i have to do anything within the BIOS for it to accept a 6TB drive?  What about 4TB drives (In case the 6TB Drives aren't supported)?

I don't want to use an external drive becuase of cord clutter and I'm already backing up to an external HDD which will require an upgrade if i upgrade the Internal drive to 6TB.

Thanks for the help.

Hi

Windows 10 supports way more than 6TB when GPT is used.

Your HDD upgrade should go smoothly.

How big can a GPT disk be?

In theory, a GPT disk can be up to 2^64 logical blocks in length. Logical blocks are commonly 512 bytes in size.

The maximum partition (and disk) size is a function of the operating system version. Windows XP and the original release of Windows Server 2003 have a limit of 2TB per physical disk, including all partitions. For Windows Server 2003 SP1, Windows XP x64 edition, and later versions, the maximum raw partition of 18 exabytes can be supported. (Windows file systems currently are limited to 256 terabytes each.)
