Media Card Reader

Card Reader appears to need a driver.  When inserting a card the light flashes.

I understand that the Media Card Reader is not working.

https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01884924 there's no win10 doc available for it, however, the same steps should apply
 

You can use the steps under Properly inserting and removing a memory card in Windows 7 

Also, your pc was shipped with win vista

So, win10 driver will not be available

I am going to interject a question (later).

The HP M7690y is circa 2007. The card reader is SD ver1.0, and is certified for SD cards up to 4GB.  "SD version 1.00 assumed 512 bytes per block. This permitted SDSC cards up to 4,096 × 512 × 512 B = 1 GiB, for which there are no known incompatibilities", and early host devices might balk at 4GB cards.    source

So, what size (in GB) are you trying to use in this old machine?
