Hi,

Trying to upgrade from 8Gb to 16Gb RAM.

I have added a new 8Gb Ram module into the 2nd memory slot on my motherboard but after reboot of the machine System and Task Manager still show the system running 8GB.

If I run CPU-Z tool it shows both memory modules but the original one shows as Single and the new one shows as Dual.

Is that an issue ?

How do I get the system to recognise the full 16Gb RAM ?

Greetings,

Welcome to the forum.

I am not a HP employee.

Your motherboard supports per HP's site (Link) :

  • Dual channel memory architecture
  • Two 240-pin DDR3 DIMM sockets
  • Supports the following:
    • PC3 10600 (DDR3-1333)
    • PC3 12800 (DDR3-1600)
  • Supports 1 GB, 2 GB, 4 GB and 8 GB DIMMs

I would say you have a memory mismatch. Memory should be installed in kits using matching pairs. It looks like the HP memory is single channel memory.

Try only the new stick of memory in the memory slot now occupied by the HP memory module to see if the PC will POST.

Crucial Memory is usually the best place to go to buy compatible memory modules when adding memory unless you can get the memory module from HP at HP Part Surfer (Link).

Regards
