HP Pavilion All-in-One - 23-q116
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I started using Adobe Photoshop/After Effects and Filmora X recently and every time I use them either it takes forever to do simple tasks, or it freezes my PC to the point I have to hold the power button to shut it off. Also had 2 instances where I got a blue screen with a sideways smiley face, and once it was gone all programs and files were wiped and had to start fresh. The second time it did not for some reason.

And I better not have photoshop and Microsoft Edge open at the same time, this too sends my PC into paperweight mode.

Bottom line, when this happens my Task Manager wont even respond.

I'm pretty sure its a RAM issue but not 100%. I looked it up and it says to run these programs you need minimal 18Gb-64Gb RAM. I have 4Gb.

Can I upgrade to the needed amount of RAM or should I just buy a new computer? If so, any recommendations that wont bankrupt me?

Im running:

Windows 10 Home 64-bit

Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-4170T CPU @ 3.20GHz

System Memory- 4GB

Intel(R) HD Graphics 4400

Thanks in advance,

Joe G

Hi:

Below is the link to the product specs for your PC.

HP Pavilion 23-q116 All-in-One Desktop PC Product Specifications | HP® Customer Support

You can find the memory upgrade info on the above link.

  • Dual channel memory architecture
  • Two DDR3 SO-DIMMs (204-pin) sockets
  • Supports PC3-12800 (DDR3-1600)
  • Supports 1 GB, 2 GB, 4GB and 8 GB DDR3 SO-DIMMs
  • Supports up to 16 GB (unbuffered) on 64-bit computers

This would be a compatible 8 GB memory chip for your PC:

Crucial 8GB DDR3L-1600 SODIMM | CT102464BF160B | Crucial.com

Below is the link to the service guide to help you open up the PC and upgrade the memory.

4 GB is not enough memory in today's day and age, but probably the biggest reason you are having issues with programs like Photoshop is because of the weak and outdated onboard Intel graphics adapter.

Now that I think about it, I get a graphic card error when using after effects too.
Thank you very much for this. Time to do some reading

I’m assuming I can replace the graphics card as well?  I was told all in ones were more of a “throw away when they go” kind of pc so you can’t really upgrade them

You're very welcome.

The graphics cannot be upgraded.

There are no options to add a graphics card.
