HP ENVY Desktop PC TE02-0000i (3Y3Q7AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Update 09/06/2022:

Thanks to help from this forum I was able to find and test memory for the Envy TE02.  Check out the post by BoxK from 09/06/2022 for specific examples of easy to order memory that work properly in the TE02.

Original Post 08/26/2022:

My system came with 16gb of memory.  I purchased corsair vengeance lpx DDR4 2x8GB 3200mhz memory to upgrade the system to 32gb.  After the memory is installed, it only runs at 2133mhz instead of 3200mhz.  I also tried some corsair vengeance pro memory as it states it is PC4-25600, which matches the motherboard specs found here.  HP Desktop PCs - Motherboard Specifications, Akali | HP® Customer Support and the memory specs stated here HP ENVY TE02-0285t DT PC Product Specifications | HP® Customer Support.

How can I get the system to run the proper spec memory at 3200mhz?

Also, I attempted to get support from HP on this issue.  Talk about the run around.  I talked with the hardware support team twice and each time they transferred me to another department that said they couldn't help me.  The other departments, new computer sales and SmartFriends, both told me that hardware support is the only place that can help me.  So far support from HP has been dismal

@BoxK,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

Indeed, as @old_geekster mentioned, HP motherboards are very finnicky when it comes to RAM and in particular RAM speeds.

According to: HP ENVY Desktop PC TE02-0000i Product Information | HP® Customer Support and: HP Desktop PCs - Motherboard Specifications, BlizzardU | HP® Customer Support, looking at "BlizzardU (SSID: 894B)" at UserBenchMark HP ENVY Desktop PC TE02-0xxx Users, here is a (likely incomplete) listing of DDR4 PC4-25600, 3200 MHz, UDIMM, Non-ECC, 288-pin RAM sticks which will actually run at 3200 MHz on your desktop:

Hynix HMA81GU6DJR8N-XN (8 GB)
Hynix HMA82GU6DJR8N-XN (16 GB)
Hynix HMAA4GU6CJR8N-XN (32 GB)
Samsung M378A2K43EB1-CWE (16 GB)
Samsung M378A2G43BB3-CWE (16 GB)
Samsung M378A1K43EB2-CWE (8 GB)
Kingston HP32D4U2S8MF-16 (16 GB)
Micron 8ATF1G64AZ-3G2J1 (8 GB)

The HP-branded Kingston RAM looks like the original HP memory.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,

@BoxK , welcome to the Community.

HP doesn't use XMPs (Extreme Memory Profiles) in their BIOS/UEFIs to overclock their memory.  They use the standard JEDEC's in the memory.  The HP motherboards are very picky when it comes to using third-party memory.  It is impossible to know which memory will and which memory will not be compatible.  In fact, the only way to be certain is order the amount of memory you want when you buy the computer.

@NonSequitur777

Thanks!  I believe you have set me on the correct path.  Using UserBenchMark to look at similar systems to determine what ram they are using was brilliant.  Riffing off of what you found, I was able to determine the exact product specifications that all the mentioned ram shares:

DDR4-3200mhz

PC4-25600

UDIMM

Unbuffered

CAS Latency - 22

Extended timing - 22-22-22

Voltage - 1.2V

Per those specs I also found that Crucial T2K8G4DFRA32A should also work.  That makes sense as Crucial memory is Micron.

I mention the Crucial memory as it is the only one readily available and can be easily found on Amazon and other sites.  I did find some of the other memory you mentioned on NewEgg, though much of it ships from China and takes a couple of months to reach the US.

Thanks again for your help.  My new memory is on its way and I'll post back here with the results of the install.

@BoxK,

You are welcome.  -And yes, please follow up and tell us how things worked out with the Crucial T2K8G4DFRA32A RAM.

Expanding further on @NonSequitur777's idea of using benchmarking tools to determine what memory is running in the Envy TE02, I used PerformanceTest to see what the specs were for the factory installed memory.  I then filtered through the available memory types on Amazon to find some easily orderable matches.  Thanks to Amazon's generous return policy I was able to order many of the memory that matched the criteria and test them.  I am happy to report the following memory all work at 3200mhz and post benchmark scores similar to the factory installed memory.

Crucial RAM 16GB Kit (2x8GB) DDR4 3200MHz CL22 - CT2K8G4DFRA32A

TEAMGROUP Elite Plus DDR4 16GB Kit (2 x 8GB) 3200MHz - TPRD416G3200HC22DC01

TEAMGROUP Elite DDR4 16GB Kit (2 x 8GB) 3200MHz - TED416G3200C22DC01

PNY Performance 8GB DDR4 DRAM 3200MHz - MD8GSD43200-TB

Mushkin Essentials – DDR4 Desktop DRAM – 16GB (2x8GB) UDIMM Memory Kit – 3200MHz – (MES4U320NF8GX2)

OLOy DDR4 RAM 16GB (2x8GB) 3200 MHz - (MD4U0832220BHIDA)

There are other memory on Amazon that match the factory installed specs and should work.  The above are simply the ones I tried.  Hopefully this info will help others avoid the frustration I experienced when trying to upgrade memory.
