I have an XW4400 computer. I want to upgrade the memory in this computer. By default, it came with a pair of Hynix 1gb 2Rx8 PC2-5300E modules.
What is the difference between 5300E and 5300U? Can I use 5300U?
Thanks.

The PC2-5300U is non-ECC Unbuffered RAM, which is the most common type of RAM that does not check for errors. The PC2-5300E RAM is ECC RAM or error correcting. The two will not work together. ECC RAM will only work in motherboards that support it. The E and U at the end of the names indicate the ECC and Unbuffered status. (this link explains it)
Supports up to 8 GB DDR2-667 ECC Unbuffered or 2 GB DDR2-667 non-ECC SDRAM
If you desire to increase the memory (RAM), you must toss out the 5300E and get 5300U
