Sorry for the seeming repeat question but haven't found an exact answer to my question yet. Was looking at the Pavilion Desktop and found the memory specifics below for the machine. It mentions supporting up to PC4-23400 (DDR4-2933). The question is, will a PC4-24000 (DDR4-3000) or higher work with this machine and just operate at the 2933 speed? PC4-23400 seems like an odd denomination at the local stores. PC4-24000 and PC4-25600 seem way more available locally. They mention being backwards compatible with slower speeds, just want to confirm that to be true.
- Dual channel memory architecture (One DIMM per channel)
- Two DDR4 DIMM (288-pin) sockets
- Supports up to PC4-23400 (DDR4-2933)
- Supports 4 GB and 8 GB DDR4 UDIMMs
- Supports up to 4 GB on 32-bit systems
note:
32-bit systems cannot address a full 4.0 GB of memory. - Supports up to 32 GB (unbuffered) with two 16 GB DIMMs on 64-bit systems
note:
Maximum memory shown reflects the capability of the hardware and can be limited further in the operating system.

hi
https://support.hp.com/ph-en/document/c07213364
in general if you do not use the memory required / enabled by hp, the computer will operate at the lowest frequency
at worst, it won't work at all
test this

did you use the scan?
in manual search I have this one
Pavilion TP01-2227c
it is the same motherboard
https://support.hp.com/ph-en/document/c07213364
Motherboard | Stark |
Intel® Core™ i5-11400
HP Pavilion Desktop TP01-2227c PC
check
https://www.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/hp---compaq/pavilion-tp01-2227c
I looked quickly, and it seems to me that indeed no availability for the same modules
Crucial indicates that these modules are guaranteed compatible
although they might not run at the correct frequency i guess
but this is just for information, you are free to search elsewhere
[edit]
curious, you can check the module in place
at hp I find two references for this model one in 4gb and the other 8gb, but this does not visibly correspond to what they indicate
L98132-800 | GNRC-UDIMM 8GB DDR4-3200 1.2v NECC |
L98130-800 | GNRC-UDIMM 4GB DDR4-3200 1.2v NECC |
and look for this one
16 GB DDR4-2933 SDRAM (2 x 8 GB)

Thanks for the info.
I haven't actually purchased the PC. Was just trying to figure out how difficult it would be to upgrade the memory and how critical the speed was if I picked something with slightly higher speed...
