I have an old Compaq Presario S0000  which I have bought back to life. I want to try to play my old Windows XP CD flight simulator games on it. I want to max the memory in it.  Can anyone tell me the memory specifications that was fitted to this desktop so I can try to find additional memory modules.

Thank you

@Compaqfp,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

The Compaq Presario S0000 series typically uses PC2100 (266 MHz) or PC2700 (333 MHz) DDR SDRAM modules. Because the "S0000" refers to a broad family of desktops from the Windows XP era (like the S5000
 or S6000), the exact limit depends on your specific motherboard.

General Memory Specifications:

Most S-series models from this era share these upgrade traits:

  • Memory Type: 184-pin DDR SDRAM DIMMs.
  • Maximum Capacity: Most models support a maximum of 1GB or 2GB total.
  • Slots: Typically features 2 memory sockets.
  • Speed: PC2700 (333 MHz) is the most common standard, but PC3200 (400 MHz) is often backward compatible and easier to find.

Recommended Upgrade for Flight Simulators:

For running Windows XP-era flight simulators such as Flight Simulator 2004 or FSX:

  • Target 1GB or 2GB: While 512MB was standard, "maxing out" to 1GB (two 512MB sticks) or 2GB (two 1GB sticks) will significantly reduce stuttering during flight.
  • Matching Pairs: To ensure stability, it is best to install two identical sticks of RAM rather than mixing different brands or speeds.

How to Confirm Your Exact Model:

To find your specific sub-model (e.g., S5100NX), check the sticker on the back or side of the tower. You can then look up the exact specs at specialized retailers like MemoryStock or Crucial.  I would suggest looking in eBay-UK to purchase your RAM.

Kind Regards,
