HP Pavilion 590-p0076
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The product page says it uses a Sunflower board and supports four DDR4 UDIMM (288-pin) sockets, but when I open the case, it has only 2 sockets (one of them has a 8GB RAM module installed). I would like to upgrade to at least 16GB. The page also says each socket supports 4 or 8GB modules. Since the number of sockets are wrong in the product description, what's the chance the board will support 16GB per socket so I can upgrade to 32GB max?

@yuipcheng, welcome to the forum.

I have read all of the information on the motherboard and it states that there are only 2 memory slots.  The maximum memory is 32 GB.  Here is the memory that is recommended by Crucial Memory.  If Crucial recommends the memory it is guaranteed to work.  They make very good memory for OEM computers.  As you will see, they have a 2 x 16 GB kit of memory.  You will have to replace the existing memory, however.  If you have further questions about their memory, you should contact their Tech Support for help.  They have always been very helpful.

Thank you for replying Old_geekster.

Their motherboard page do say it has 4 sockets but the picture shows two. The incorrect description is under "Memory upgrade information". See below. I guess that's just a typo since their compatible upgrade page says it can handle 2x16GB.

Memory upgrade information

  • Dual channel (2 DIMMs per channel) memory architecture
  • Four DDR4 UDIMM (288-pin) sockets
  • Supports PC4-19200 (DRR4-2400)
  • Supports 4 GB and 8 GB DDR4 UDIMMs
  • Supports up to 4 GB on 32-bit systems
    NOTE:
    32-bit systems cannot address a full 4.0 GB of memory.
  • Supports up to 32 GB (unbuffered) on 64-bit computers
    NOTE:
    Maximum memory shown reflects the capability of the hardware and can be limited further in the operating system.

@yuipcheng, I didn't read the description that you provided.  I looked at the diagram and it definitely shows 2 DDR4 DIMM Sockets.  Also, Crucial lists only two sockets.  Since HP uses their motherboards in different models, the descriptions can be incorrect at times.
