MSI IONA motherboard supports 16GB and currently has 4x2GB RAM. Running Win7 Home Premium. Can I upgrade RAM with 2x8GB matched RAM or will I have to do 4x4GB?

@ramja, welcome to the forum.

Here is the memory upgrade information from the specifications:

Memory upgrade information:

Supports DDR3 DIMMs only
Dual channel memory architecture
Four DDR3 DIMM (240-pin) sockets
DIMM types:
PC3-10600 (DDR3-1333)
PC3-8500 (DDR3-1066)
Non-ECC memory only, unbuffered
Supports up to 16 GB on 64-bit PCs
Maximum memory only if using 4GB DDR3 DIMM modules.
 note:
32-bit PCs can only address less than 4.0 GB of memory. This motherboard is not planned for use with a 32-bit OS.

I highlighted the statement that appears to say that you need to use 4 x 4 GB modules to make the 16 GB.  This is the only information that is available to tell how to populate the memory slots to attain the maximum memory.
