Hi, I would like to upgrade the memory of a HP24 all in one 6PY80EA#ABF

I know that there are currently 2 slots but only one is occupied with a 4GB DDR4 SDRAM

I know also that the maximum memory for this desktop is 16GB

My 1st question: to upgade to 8 GB is it better to use 2 DSRAM of 4GB or only one of 8GB

My second question : If I only buy a SDRAM to insert in the second slot is it worthy to gat a 4GB one or a 8GB one?

Thanks for your comments

I think I answered it, if you buy a 4 GB one it activates the dual channel, if you buy an 8 GB one it doesn't, it only increases your ram to 12 GB, which only makes sense if you are going to buy later an 8 Gb one to have 16 GB.

if you do not know what is dual channel this is when the memory transfers data 128 bit and if it does not have dual channel it transfers at 64 bit half slower.

Hi @baupierre

The two questions are similar, if you buy a 4 GB memory to be two memories of the same size double channel is activated which doubles the data transfer between memory, and that makes it faster. Now if you plan to upgrade to 16 GB you will want to buy an 8 GB.

Hi, thanks for your answer it is clear that 2X4GB or 2X8GB represent a good solution. My question was a little bit different.

If I want to buy only one memory (to insert in the second slot) I have the choice to buy a 4GB one or a 8GB one.

What is the best trade-off in terms of price and/or performance?

Thanks for your time
