Have an HP Pavillion Slimline 400-314 I was given...the hard drive failed so I replaced it and am using Windows 10 Pro with no issues really except it is a little slower than what I am used to....currently it has 4GB of memory. Can I remove that and put in one 8GB of memory that came with the stuff I was given? It is PC3-12800, 1600MHz, CAS 9 and 1.5v? I don't know if it was used or not as the package was open. Will that do any good or should I, being the senior citizen that I am, be thrilled I replaced the hard drive on my own and leave well enough alone? It can be upgraded to 16GB

Hello
I do not know if I understood correctly and that you already have the module ..
So we have to confirm this model so well:
Then, sorry, it does not seem very clear to me, the memory indicated in place seems more or less to match, but this is not what is specified for the motherboard!
that said, there is not much risk enough to test, if the pc does not start enough to replace the original one!
And if it works since you have two locations you can try with the old one in addition to go to 12
