Hello all;
You are Always Helpful-I have a question. I have a Pavilion Desktop (HP Pavilion Desktop 550-040) which holds a cap of 16gb memory. It currently already has 8 installed and I purchased from Ebay the following listed below-which is an additional 8 to max it out.
Crucial 8GB DDR3 1600 MHz PC3-12800 CL11 240pin Non ECC Desktop Memory RAM UDIMM
( 281510399272 )
After install, I am getting the blue screen of death with an error message relative to memory. Is the memory a defect, do I need to reinstall-perhaps I installed incorrectly or is this the incorrect memory.
Thanks for any help you can provide!!
John

That is a true GOOD TO KNOW!! Thanks Dean. That may be why the Blue Screen of death. While it did permit based on ram, it did not understand thus the BSOD. I will respond back to the Ebay partner with your response-that may help the exchange for the correct ram.
Thanks so much.
best,
John

There are slight variation of that model. What is the 2 letters after the 040.
Was this Crucial RAM certified to work in your exact model?
HP Envy 8 5010 Tablet
(2) HP DV7t i7 3160QM 2.3Ghz 8GB
Printer -- HP OfficeJet Pro 8620 Legal
Custom Asus Z97D, I7-4790k, 16GB RAM, WIN10 Pro 64bit, ZOTAC GTX1080 AMP Extreme 3 fan 8GB RAM, 500GB SSD, Asus PB287 4k monitor, Rosewill Blackhawk case and 750W OCZ PSU.

Thanks Dean. There are no additional letters after the 040-just the following; HP Pavilion Desktop - 550-040 (ENERGY STAR).
What is stated in the Guide Specific to my model is;
Two 240-pin DDR3 DIMM sockets
- Supports the following:
- PC3 10600 (DDR3-1333)
- PC3 12800 (DDR3-1600)
- Supports 1 GB, 2 GB, 4 GB and 8 GB DIMMs
I did compare and here is what I have-just hard to know if these are the same or different;
EBAY Purchase:
Crucial 8GB DDR3 1600 MHz PC3-12800 CL11 240pin Non ECC Desktop Memory RAM UDIMM
( 281510399272 )
CORRECT for the Pav 550-040 model as from the link provided in troubleshooting;
Specs: DDR3L PC3L-12800 • CL=11 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3L-1600 • 1.35V • 1024Meg x 64 •

What is the product number? RAM modules are specified to a certain model. You just can not purchase generic RAM and expect it to work. The modules must be matching. Here is the parts list for the 500-040. The RAM is specific to these:
676695-150 Memory - 8GB, PC3-12800, CL11, dPC
698651-154 Memory - 8GB, PC3-12800, CL11, dPC
By the way, I did a reverse lookup on your purchase, Crucial states it's server RAM. Not good for your system.
