I just bought an HP Desktop TP01-2234. I have 2 monitors and I can get one to work with an HDMI hookup, but I can't get the second monitor to work.  I have an HDMI to VGA adapter, but it does not work.

I suggest using a video card that has dual HDMI outputs.

Using that will allow you to use the versatility of Windows own presentation modes.  Windows key+P

Using a splitter will only allow duplication of the output without allowing you to extend the screens\, which gives you more video output "real estate".

Mixing VGA and HDMI is not a viable solution as you have discovered.

The current video solution, as delivered, at the back of the PC will only provide one of r the other.
