I am trying to upgrade my CPU in order to run Windows 11 (currently on Windows 10).

Current CPU: AMD A12-9800 REDEON R7

Problems:
I don't know the specs of my motherboards.

I don't have a list of supported CPU on that motherboard.

I can't check if the cooler coming with the new CPU will fit on my motherboard (it has 4 screws - no clip for the cooler).
Can someone provide me some specs?

Bonus question:  I was led to think AMD Ryzen7-2700 was supported (from some forum).  But the PC won't boot with it.  Putting back the old CPU worked for now.  Is this CPU not supported on my motherboard?

You're very welcome.

I'd go with a Nvidia GT 1030 since it only has a 30W power draw.

The Nvidia GT 710 may also work.  It is an older card but only has a 19W power draw.

I don't think they are too expensive if you can find a used but tested and working card on eBay.

According to the product specs, your PC has a HP 'Sunflower' motherboard which supports the following processors:

  • TDP: up to 65 W
  • Socket type: AM4
  • Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades:
    Processor
    TDP
    AMD Ryzen7-2700 (Pinnacle Ridge) 8 cores/16 threads
    65 W
    AMD Ryzen5-2600 (Pinnacle Ridge) 6 cores/12 threads
    65 W
    AMD Ryzen7-1700 (Summit Ridge) 3.0 GHz, 8 cores/16 threads
    65 W
    AMD Ryzen5-1600 (Summit Ridge) 3.2 GHz, 6 cores/12 threads
    65 W
    AMD Ryzen5-2400G (Raven Ridge) 3.6 GHz, 4 cores/8 threads
    45 - 65 W
    AMD Ryzen3-2200G (Raven Ridge) 3.5 GHz, 4 cores/4 threads
    45 - 65 W
AMD AMD A12-9800 APU (Bristol Ridge) 3.8 GHz, 4 cores
    65 W
AMD AMD A10-9700 APU (Bristol Ridge) 3.5 GHz, 4 cores
    65 W
AMD AMD A8-9600 APU (Bristol Ridge) 3.1 GHz, 4 cores
    65 W

However, the product specs for your PC indicate that it has the onboard AMD graphics adapter, and the Ryzen 7-2700 requires a discrete graphics card in order to work.

So, you will need to install a supported graphics card.

You don't need to change out the cooler and I believe that another cooler won't attach to the motherboard the same way the OEM one does.

The OEM heat sink is rated for 65W processors.

This is very helpful information
How can I find a graphic card that is not too expensive and fits my Sunflower motherboard so that I can use my new Ryzen 7-2700 CPU?

I am not a gamer so no need for high performance.card
I think the PSU might be an issue (PSU 180W based on the link that you provided).

Update:

My PC is running smoothly with the GT 1030 graphic card and Ryzen7-2700 CPU.
