Motherboard upgrade
07-08-2019 11:24 PM - edited 07-08-2019 11:26 PM

Hi, I have a omen 880-058. Came with a ryzen 1400 and HP higos motherboard. I have a ryzen 5 1600x I want to use. Is there a motherboard that will fit existing io? I bought a msi b350m bazooka but, the io is different and requires me to cut out a chunk of the case io. Is there a motherboard that will fit existing openings?

Its specs
https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c05867098
Its Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades:
Processor | TDP |
AMD Ryzen7-1800X (Summit Ridge) 3.6 GHz, 8 cores/16 threads | 95 W |
AMD Ryzen7-1700 (Summit Ridge) 3.0 GHz, 8 cores/16 threads | 65 W |
AMD Ryzen5-1600 (Summit Ridge) 3.2 GHz, 6 cores/12 threads | 65 W |
AMD Ryzen5-1400 (Summit Ridge) 3.2 GHz, 4 cores/8 threads | 65 W |
It uses Form factor: uATX: 24.0x24.0 cm (9.4x9.4 in) motherboard therefore any uATX motherboard will fit BUT you may loose some functions on the Omen machine with are in BIOS.
I would update BIOS and try ryzen 5 1600x . I don't think there is another motherboard for the series. You are talking about paying $$$$ just to get $$ work. Why not pay $$$ for a Ryzen7 CPU.
I believe ryzen 5 1600x should work because machine supports AMD Ryzen7-1800X .
Regards.
