Hi @dree4,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
If your HP All-in-One PC emits a burnt smell when plugged in, and no power reaches the system, this is a serious hardware issue. Here's how to assess the situation:
Possible Causes
- Burnt Power Adapter (Charger)
- If the burnt smell is coming from the adapter or plug, the charger may have shorted or failed.
- Try using a different compatible HP charger (if available) to test.
- Damaged Power Port or Motherboard
- If the smell is from the PC itself, especially near the power port, it could indicate:
- A burnt power input circuit
- A shorted motherboard component
- Internal power surge damage
- If the smell is from the PC itself, especially near the power port, it could indicate:
- No Power at All
- If the PC shows no lights, no fan movement, and no display, it’s likely a hardware-level failure.
What You Should Do Next:
- Do not plug it in again until it’s inspected—continuing to use it could cause further damage or pose a fire risk.
- Check the charger separately:
- Smell the adapter and cable ends.
- Look for melted plastic or discoloration.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
